Asamoah Gyan missed from the subsequent penalty kick to send the game into penalty shootout. The incident happened in the final minute of the additional 30 minutes of extra time added to the game. The game finished at 1-1 after 120 minutes. Uruguay won 4-2 from the penalty shootout to advance to the semi final. Luis Suarez was a hero for Uruguay as he has sacrifice for the team advancement into the semi final. He was misses the next game as he was punished with an automatic one game suspension for his handball act.
